Lowndes County Budget Hearing

Notes by John and Gretchen Quarterman. These are citizen notes recording what we think we heard at a public budget hearing of the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners.

A dozen or more county employees from various departments.

(Who or how many other attendees were there)

Apparently only three from the general public.

How: (Meeting Notes:)

We hear the state constitution requires county to show balanced budget in public hearing. This is the second hearing. There was no public agenda that we knew of.

2 DARE (safety) officers to go at the middle schools

Sheriff Prine advocates accepting partial funding (75%) from school board, including the new middle school now being built.

Commissioner Lee expresses astonishment that the school board has decided to fund part of this after many years when they paid nothing.

Chairman Paulk (former sheriff) recommends approval.

Legal coverage of indigent coverage.

Judge (?) speaks for it.

Children's Advocacy Center (CAC).

County manager speaks about it.

Chairman Paulk says he learned how valuable it was when he was sheriff and recommends reinstating it. He asks other sheriffs in the room if they agree and they say yes.
