Member news:

~Jerome Tucker is enjoying the break from CPIE while the schools are on summer break, but continues to stay busy. The American Red Cross at Southeast Elementary was good. Summer months show a reduction in blood donations & donors are continually needed.

~ Bill Shenton, from Turner Center, brought news that the piano concert is coming up on July 13th at 7:30. Tickets are still available & are $25 advance, $30 at the door. Summer Art classes are ongoing. Call for details: 247-2787. The balance in the Roundtable account was reported as $274.59.

~Gretchen Quarterman, with Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE.org), spoke of vegetable exchanges & stands set up in the area.

~Dennis Marks: He is the newly elected President of the Valdosta Rotary Club & was happy to report that his group had been in touch with persons at Babies Can’t Wait & that the local Rotary will begin to provide books to preschool programs here.

~Stuart Mullis, with Habitat for Humanity, recommended the Habitat Re-Store for many of your building & home needs. They offer many products at greatly reduced prices. They save you money in your purchase & you help them by providing funds for additional Habitat expenses. The Re-Store is located on Cypress St.

~Julie Halter, VSU Continuing Ed. is having a busy summer with all the children’s camps & classes going on. Learning in Retirement will be starting up soon. Call 245-6484 for info.

~Terri Whitlock is the new Executive Director at the American Red Cross. They are currently trying to build disaster preparedness team volunteers. A group of Lowndes High School students are meeting as Junior Red Cross volunteers. There will be a Low Country Boil fundraiser on Aug. 1. Call 242-7404 for tickets & information.

~Jane Osborn reminded members of the great opportunities to see plays locally at the Peach State Summer Theatre. Call 259-7770 for plays & dates. There will be home ownership classes starting in August. They are free, but you must register to attend. Call 245-1330/ext.22. Did you know you can turn in skeins of yarn that you’re not using to the Christ Episcopal Church? They make blankets for needy individuals. Jane also suggested that we check the website GBPI.org for information about the Georgia Budget & Policy Institute.

Since Shannon Jenkins was unable to attend today, Jane had information about Girl Scouts to share. There will be several dates this month to sign up girls for scouting. Call 242-4681 for dates & information.

~ Leslie Jacobs had no news to report from Jacobs’ Ladder. Camp is over for the summer & riding lessons are occurring early in the morning to beat the heat of the day.

That concludes the minutes for this month’s meeting & they are submitted for your review. I hope to see everyone next month on Thursday, August 6th, at 12:30. Bring a guest!

Leslie Jacobs,

Secretary
