Valdosta Civic Roundtable

News & Notes

On Monday, May 4th, it was determined that the Civic Roundtable would not meet this month.

The Club President, Jane Osborn, would be out of town, attending the funeral of her mother.

First Vice President, Donald Davis, was going to be involved in a meeting Downtown, where the Brown Bag Lunches are being held.

Past President, Dennis Marks, was not going to be available to attend the meeting, due to another obligation.

There was concern over the Food Score most recently given to the Fuji Restaurant, a 70%. The officers discussed other buffet possibilities, but have not come to a conclusion. More options will be explored before the next meeting is scheduled. The membership is welcome to make suggestions & email them to me.

Members who have shared information they would like to be passed along:

Upon the retirement of Penelope White from The American Red Cross, Terri Whitlock has been chosen as the new Executive Director. You may contact her for more information, or to volunteer, at 242-7404.

Cheryl Oliver sends the following items to note: The Turner Center for the Arts - From June 1 until August 5, juried pieces from the Spring Into Art exhibit will be displayed in the Boyette Gallery as the Best of Spring Into Art; the work of Fay Bridges Hyatt will be on exhibit in the Price-Campbell Foundation Gallery; Barbara Ward’s art will grace the walls of Josette’s Gallery and the Roberta George Children’s Gallery will feature the works of children who participated in our Boys & Girls Club Art Explorations Spring term program. Winners of the City of Valdosta Photo Contest will be displayed in a portion of the Tillman Gallery during the month of June.

We’ll soon finalize our schedule of Summer Art Classes for children. The classes will run from June 8 through July 3; then we’ll offer a culinary/ etiquette class from July 20 - 24.

We have an exciting summer event planned, but I won’t have confirmation until Friday. I’ll send it along with the Summer Class schedule when we know the particulars.

News items were short due to not officially meeting in May. Hope to see everyone on Thursday, June 4th.

Leslie Jacobs,

Secretary
