Two Lowndes County cases this month at ZBOA, both wanting variances to access rights of way. Village of Hope appears to be a religious rehab center, offshoot of House of Hope, wanting to use the same access road as Valdosta Wake Compound.
SSMT Holdings appears to be an ordinary subdivision expansion, with fewer feet than code requires for road access due to a retention pond.
Also, ZBOA votes on officers this month.
Here is the agenda. See also the board packet, which is on the LAKE website, courtesy of ZBOA Board Member Gretchen Quarterman.

Two months ago at ZBOA: setbacks, exterior buildings, parking, landscaping, buffers, and tree protection, in four county cases and four Valdosta cases.
There were split votes on VAR-2019-08 — Grace Baptist Church of South Georgia (6749 US Highway 84 East, Naylor) and APP-2019-04 Ian McTurk (1062 Ridge Road.)
Seven conditions were imposed on a unanimous vote on APP-2019-03 Pete’s Otto Shop (401 E. Ann St./1113 Marion St.)
I’m slow posting these videos, but not as slow as the City of Valdosta, where there’s no Summary of Actions for any meeting since May, and no Minutes since June. However, the minutes are on the LAKE website, in the packet for the next ZBOA meeting, courtesy of ZBOA member Gretchen Quarterman.
Below are links to each LAKE video, with Continue reading

The interesting part was not that ZBOA approved everything unanimously in its September 11, 2018 meeting, including setbacks for the same Stovall property at 6002 N. Oak Street Ext., Valdosta, for which later that same day the Lowndes County Commission approved removal of the prohibition on personal care homes. The news is that Lowndes County Commissioner Scottie Orenstein stood up in a public meeting and spelled out at 30 minutes 47 seconds that “there was some behind-the-scenes conversation”:
Scottie Orenstein, Lowndes County Commissioner. In March 2015, there was a condition put on this. But after speaking with Chairman Slaughter this afternoon, Continue reading
ZBOA has on its agenda for Tuesday setbacks for the same Stovall property at 6002 N. Oak Street Ext., Valdosta, that is on the Lowndes County Commission agenda the same day for removal of the prohibition on personal care homes.
Plus a family ties variance in the county and a church setback in Valdosta.

The Hahira annexation and rezoning from the Lowndes County Commission meeting two weeks ago (and see comment below) was on the agenda for the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) last night, along with another subdivision, a church expansion, and some industry, in Valdosta and Lowndes County. I did not go, and Gretchen is out of the county, so there is no LAKE video.
You may ask yourself, as I do: why doesn’t the county video GLPC meetings? Or the city of Valdosta? Both have the facilities to do so.
On the
LAKE website,
Hahira annexation and rezoning HA-2018-03, HA-2018-02.
LAKE received this comment yesterday on the Hahira case:
Here is more info on this project which I am proud to bring to the community and which I believe will be a wonderful addition to it that all will feel proud to have. It ties into the community roots, it honors those that came before, and it meets a need today in north Lowndes County and does so in a wall all can feel proud of. I am a concerned citizen like anyone else and that is a big part of why I have gone out of my way with my engineer and planners to create something not only compliant, but that goes well above the line to bring something truly beautiful, that reflects both my family and my community in a way I can hold my up about when I walk around the community. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely, Chris Connell http://www.mcnealestates.com
LAKE does not have a position on this case. We will be happy to publish other comments for or against.
