Baseball and water; electric sign withdrawn @ ZBOA 2015-04-07

Today at 2:30 PM, the owner of the baseball diamond west of Hahira is not expected to appear, because he’s working. If you want to see him, try Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York, tomorrow evening. There’s a water connection variance on Jumping Gully Road, and the electric company parking variance on Norman Drive in Valdosta tabled last month has been withdrawn.

Here’s the agenda, which oddly is not yet on the City of Valdosta website. Continue reading

Videos of ZBOA decisions on one single-family residence and a car dealership sign in the county, and an electric company sign parking variance in the city. They meet again this afternoon.

Here’s the agenda, with decisions, followed by the videos. Continue reading

Return to agriculture, historic preservation, and personal services @ GLPC 2015-03-30

While Vallotton Farms wants to revert to Estate Agricultural, 300x238 Parcel 0108 173, in Vallotton Farms, by John S. Quarterman, 30 March 2015 Vickers and Edward Jennings LLC want denser zoning. It’s not clear what the Valdosta historic preservation case or the Lake Park personal services case are about, since the county still doesn’t publish board packets. Note that Vallotton Farms (both the part outlined in red that appears to be the subject of the rezoning and the bigger part west of Bemiss Road) is on Cherry Creek, upstream from the dam, and upstream from Cherry Creek Sink on the Withlacoochee River, which leaks into our drinking water in the Floridan Aquifer. Better agriculture upstream from that than other possibilities.

Here’s the agenda. Continue reading

Sugar Creek sewer main, permit, WWTP –VDT @ VCC 2015-03-19

The VDT has some information apparently from the agenda packet the city didn’t publish with its agenda for Thursday. Joe Adgie, VDT, 17 March 2015, City Council to consider revisions to radar ordinance,

Bids will be considered for the sewer main at Sugar Creek near Gornto Road and near the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.

The sewer main has become exposed due to ongoing steam bank erosion, and the sewer main has started to sag. The city said this exposure needs to be repaired sooner rather than later, as the exposure could lead to a failure, and could allow raw sewage to directly leak into Sugar Creek.

This would be a violation of the city’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit with the state.

The recommended bid comes from Garney Companies, Inc., for $286,000.

Other bids come from Continue reading

Leadership Lowndes Class of 2015 was there, and Gretchen Quarterman spoke about the WWALS Alapaha River Water Trail Conference. Videos: 1 commercial, 1 subdivision @ GLPC 2015-02-23

In the briefest Planning Commission meeting I can recall, Stovall got her rezoning of 5.84 acres to General Commercial on Oak Street Extension recommended unanimously Monday 23 February 2015. Ivy Gate subdivision’s second phase to rezone 10.33 acres to R-10 on Cat Creek Road at 4088 Cat Creek Road was also recommended unanimously. Nobody spoke for or against either rezoning, and there was no discussion from Commissioners, other than a recommendation by Commissioner Wildes that all lots face interior roads for Ivy Gate.

After the rezonings, Commissioners joked that with a meeting so brief they might catch up with the County Commission. County Chairman Bill Slaughter responded, “Actually, we just showed up to show you how to run a quick meeting.” The difference is GLPC actually does discuss when there’s something to discuss. These cases will show up on the County Commission agenda for March 10th, so we’ll see who takes longer on them then.

Here’s the agenda, and below are links to the videos, followed by a video playlist. Continue reading

Videos: Denied Lake Alapaha variance @ ZBOA 2015-02-03

The variance about not connecting to county water at Lake Alapaha Blvd. seemed to actually involve adjoining property, as several Commissioners pointed out, and ZBOA denied it, 4 to 3. Zoning Director Carmella Braswell represented the county as usual.

Here’s the agenda, which now is on the City of Valdosta website as http://www.valdostacity.com/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=7948, after Board member Gretchen Quarterman asked for agendas to be posted up to date.
