All four cases got recommendations from the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC)
for approval by the Valdosta Mayor and Council.
However, all but the first and last were on split votes, and the last had one Commissioner recuse himself.
It took the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC)
about an hour to consider the Valdosta and Lowndes County rezonings.
Each case had quite a few citizen speakers and much Commissioner discussion.

The one Valdosta case before the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission
tomorrow evening is for rezoning 1.76 acres from R-6 to R-M at 915 West Street,
“to develop it as an apartment complex with 12 dwelling units.”
The one Lowndes County case
is for rezoning about 8 acres from R-1 (Low Density Residential) to P-D (Planned Development)
on Janes Road at Smith Street.
That’s all I know, because the county has still not sent the relevant board packet materials in response to a LAKE open records request.
As a placeholder, I put in a map from the Lowndes County Tax Assessors.
Actually, not contentious: the planners and applicants spoke for a long time.
Nobody spoke against the rezoning requests, and the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) voted unanimously to recommend approval of all of them,
last month on September 26, 2022.
Thanks to Loretta Hylton of SGRC for the Dasher agenda item,
to City Planner Matt Martin for the seven Valdosta items, and to BOC Records for the two Lowndes County Items, presumably made by County Planner JD Dillard.
The board packet for the September 26, 2022, Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) Regular Session is
on the LAKE website.

At the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) meeting this evening at 5:30 PM,
the only sizeable rezoning they will discuss will be
REZ-2022-16 Townes at 4443, 4443 Bemiss Road,
and that one is next to another subdivision, on the county’s main northside drag.
It will be interesting to see how this Valdosta rezoning goes, after recent shenanigans involving a Lowndes County halfway house rezoning:
REZ-2022-16 Townes at 4443, 4443 Bemiss Road.
The Valdosta Lowndes County Development Authority (VLCDA) wants to
rezone
and
annex into Valdosta
an acres at 1349 Old Statenville Road,
which is next to one of VLCDA’s existing industrial parks. Continue reading →
I wonder if the developer at Wainwright Drive in Valdosta knows about
the repeated sewer leaks on One Mile Branch?
And will Valdosta ever fix those before something else is built near there,
putting more load on the sewer system?

The sound is not so good because the county has still not fixed the audio in the room.
Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item,
with a few notes by Gretchen Quarterman, followed by a LAKE video playlist.
See also the Lake Park packet item,
which Loretta Hylton of the Southern Georgia Regional Commission
sent, saying she heard I was looking for it.
It’s now on the LAKE website (PDF).
Also, she said “The attorney pulled the Dasher item before submitting it to the Planning Commission.”
We still don’t have the Remerton item.
The Valdosta and Hahira items were already on the LAKE website,
previously sent by City Planner Matt Martin.
We still don’t have the Remerton items.
There were no Lowndes County packet items. Continue reading →
