Videos: Brookwood reappears, 3 board appointments, 2 road abandoments, Comp Plan Update, Budget Adoption @ LCC 2016-06-27

County Planner Jason Davenport said at Monday morning’s Work Session that the

Comprehensive Plan Update
should be a Public Hearing,

so it needs to be listed as such for Tuesday evening’s Regular Session.
I guess that is more than 24 hours notice, but did they send a notice to the newspaper?
How were people to know, and why was this left to the day before when this
schedule has been known for months to all the local planners?

Not on
the agenda
,
the Brookwood Place Subdivision tabled two weeks ago
popped up in

Reports
.

The county has had

a board member listed for VLPRA for a year after his term actually expired

The

long-prepared

transmittal of the

Comprehensive Plan Update

is on the Planning Commission agenda tonight at 5:30 PM,
along with two
Lowndes County land development cases,
oddly scheduled for final approval by the Lowndes County Commission at two different dates.

3 board appointments, 2 road abandoments, Comp Plan Update, Budget Adoption @ LCC 2016-06-27

Sheriff or VLPRA?
Invisible budget, visible Comp Plan Update, 1 road abandonment + apparently another,
and sewage not getting sprayed. All Monday morning 8:30 AM at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session.

The
LAS Pump Control Panel
is for the sewage spray field, aka Land Application Site: cost $18,500.

Lowndes County does not have a wastewater treatment plant, just

an LAS,
east of Moody Air Force Base’s Grassy Pond west of I-75 and Lake Park
.

The Update for the
2016 Greater Lowndes Comprehensive Plan
has gone through quite a process of community input, thanks to SGRC.

Can’t say the same for the
Adoption of Fiscal Year 2017 Budget,
for which the county had

a budget meeting with less than 24 hours notice
,
followed by two budget hearings that those who attended say lasted fifteen
minutes each with six slides presented.
And the most recent budget document on the county’s website is from 2016.

There’s only one road abandonment listed as such on
the agenda
(a Portion of Beaver Lane),
but Continue reading

In a very unusual move, they tabled

trust deed or a well system

that a developer wants because he does not want to have property annexed into the city of Valdosta. Valdosta services are across the street.
The Chairman said he asked the Engineer who asked the developer first.

Citizens

Lawrence and Helen Williams

expressed concern about dogs and a gun at a neighbor’s house.

They unanimously approved everything else Continue reading

Videos: 3 Hahira rezonings + annexation, Valdosta PD + LDR @ GLPC 2016-05-31

Here are LAKE videos of
the controversial Hahira rezonings and annexation
at the Planning Commission May 31st 2016.
The longest GLPC discussion was actually on the

Valdosta sign ordinance changes
.

County Manager Joe Pritchard acknowledged receipt of a letter from Hahira
at the
Lowndes County Commission Work Session 2016-05-23
and the next day the County Commission voted they had no objections.
After nobody from the audience spoke for or against,

the Planning Commission on 2016-05-31 recommended anexation
,
chaired by vice-chair Jody Hall of Hahira.
Probably the Hahira City Council discussed this item at the Hahira City Council Work Session the same day as the County Commission Work Session,
and proceeded with the annexation at the Hahira Regular Session of June 2nd,
but

the last Hahira minutes online
are from February 2016.

Thanks to Hahira City Planner Matt Martin, packet materials Continue reading

Sen. John Barrasso predicted China emissions wrong

See the power behind FERC get it very wrong.

You can choose love: Valdosta vigil for Orlando

Before the names of the dead were read by 50 of the crowd
that numbered at least three times as many;
before the moment of silence and the prayer
and the thanks to all the first responders and police who assisted at the scene in Orlando;
this evening at St Barnabas Church on Bemiss Road
one speaker said we could choose to focus on the person who did this horrible thing in Orlando,
or we could choose to focus on fear, but as for her and her house,
she chooses love:
go out and do something for your neighbor.

Choose to focus on love

The gathering also served as Continue reading

Sandra Tooley, Valdosta City Council District 2,
was among the very few people present who did not have business on
the agenda of the
Lowndes County County Commission Work Session this Monday morning.

Videos: Policies, Workshop #6 @ SGRC 2016-05-09

Educating people upstream about things they could do to reduce flooding,
was among the topics discussed by Gretchen with the small sixth workshop that on Monday May 9th 2016
reviewed the Policies section
(Word,
PDF)
of the 19 April 2016 Workbook
for the Update to the Greater Lowndes Comprehensive Plan, as

Ariel Godwin said in advance
.

Here’s the
agenda
for this morning’s 8:30 AM Work Session and tomorrow evening’s voting Regular Session:
will the Lowndes County Commission spend more on mosquito testing than on renting prisoners from Valdosta State Prison?
(Answer: no,

$45,790 on mosquitos

and

$118,500 on three prisoner work details
at $39,500 each:

“The details are utilized in the maintenance of over 5,000 easements that require manual hand cutting.”

Hm, if the county didn’t insist on 80-foot easements….

They’re also

appointing people to four different boards
.
If you wanted to apply, how would you know to do so?
