Subtract out the invocation, pledge, and approval of minutes (which you couldn’t hear anyway because
the county’s sound system wasn’t working) and the
Chairman’s ending comments on Youth Leadership,
and your elected Commissioners spent about six minutes on the business of the county,
including spending some unknown amount of money on road services.
Chairman Bill Slaughter mentioned the recent death of his predecessor
Fred DeLoach.
County Manager Joe Pritchard said he tried to talk
Carmella Braswell out of retiring,
but she has done so.
Received in response to an open records request to Lowndes County,
here is the developer’s withdrawal letter,
and correspondence between Lowndes County Zoning and Planning with
Moody AFB confirming that this was indeed
REZ-2013-08 MFH Tract A on Roberts Road that was withdrawn.
It seems the U.S. Air Force would also like to see GLPC minutes online;
that request came from Deputy, Housing Division,
Air Force Civil Engineering Center, located in
San Antonio, Texas..
Also, doesn’t Georgia open meetings law require a summary of
actions taken within a few days of a Planning Commission meeting?

Gentlemen,
I had no idea of the county anger with MFH LLC. I thought Continue reading →
Another board, another incumbent reappointed. Now
I’m not saying that’s a bad thing: experience and continuity can be
useful. But I do think applicants could say more about why they
want the job and Commissioners could ask a few questions about
their experience on the board. At least applicants are mostly
showing up to speak; that’s an improvement.
5.c. Valdosta/Lowndes County Zoning Board of
Appeals
The
Zoning Board of Appeals decided unanimously at its 6 December 2011 meeting
to publish its agendas and minutes on the City of Valdosta’s website.
This item was not on the agenda, but members of such a board can make motions
anyway.
Member Gretchen Quarterman suggested it.
Valdosta City Planner Matt Martin said they could do it no problem.
Discussion ensued.
They all agreed to post agends before their meetings,
and to post minutes after they are approved (usually at the next meeting,
a month later).
Maybe other local boards and authorities will follow this example.
