Six special conditions accompany the recommendation for the Bemiss Road Yazmin Saucedo storage facility and the “event center called the “Enchanted Hall” that specializes in weddings, quincenaras, and family reunions, with an anticipated overall seating capacity of about 160 people,”.

Several people spoke against the Bemiss Road Freeman Investments rezoning from R-P to C-N. Several people explained to them that if this rezoning did not pass, the owner could put up a three-story apartment building. The unanimous recommendation for approval came with a condition of a 6-foot opaque wooden fence between this property and the three it backs up on.

No conditions were recommended for the Southern Gateway Madison Highway rezoning and annexation south of the airport. I spoke to attorney Bill Nijem and Valdosta City Planner Matt Martin afterwards. There is indeed a pond in the middle of the part of the property south of Race Track Road SE. It’s not clear what will happen to it; it may be used as a detention pond. The eventual development of the property is as yet undecided. It’s also between the Withlacoochee and Alapaha River watersheds, and not well-connected to creeks, so probably not a problem.

Below are links to each LAKE video of each agenda item, with a few notes by John S. Quarterman, followed by a LAKE video playlist.

All Valdosta cases: 2 small and 1 big annexation and rezoning @ GLPC 2024-07-29

On Bemiss Road, the storage facility and the “event center called the “Enchanted Hall” that specializes in weddings, quincenaras, and family reunions, with an anticipated overall seating capacity of about 160 people,” seem unremarkable in next week’s agenda for the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC).

Videos: Valdosta subdivisions, Lowndes County subdivisions and manufacturing @ GLPC 2024-02-26

The Valdosta rezonings will be heard by the Valdosta Mayor and Council at their Work Session this evening at 5:30 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, and decided at their Regular Session Thursday evening. At least this time the subdivisions are mostly next to other subdivisions.

The Planning Commissioners unanimously recommended approval of VA-2024-02 on Cherry Creek Road. Ditto VA-2024-03, the Mt Zion Church Road rezoning, and VA-2024-04, the corresponding annexation.

The Lowndes County rezonings will be decided by the Lowndes County Commission on Tuesday, March 12. The Planning Commissioners unanimously (I think) recommended approval of REZ-2024-03 on Bemiss Road. Ditto REZ-2024-04 on Clyattstone Road and REZ-2024-05 on Old Clyattville Road, with some conditions.

Packet: Hahira 26 acre development; Valdosta financial institution, animal boarding, and commercial speculation; Lowndes County event venue and subdivision @ GLPC 2024-01-29

Update 2024-01-29: Actually, Lowndes County did email the materials on Friday. Packet: Gresham Event Venue on Old Valdosta Road and Byrd Road individual residences @ GLPC 2024-01-29.

Lowndes County did not return the materials for the two Lowndes County items listed in the agenda for Monday’s Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) meeting. I have asked them again, noting the 3 days allowed for a response to a Georgia Open Recorda Act (GORA) request have passed.

Valdosta and Hahira staff (led by Matt Martin) find all the requests for those two cities consistent with the Comprehensive Plan and recommends approval, except for one of the Hahira proposals.

All three Hahira proposals are by Cre8ive Development Partners LLC, for 26 acres on 5901 U.S. 41 North. They are 8. to rezone, 9. to approve a planned development, and 10. to annex the property into the City of Hahira.

It’s that middle item that staff recommends further steps for: Continue reading

No agenda for Planning Commission Work Session @ GLPC 2016-05-23

On Lowndes County’s website there’s no agenda for tonight’s Planning Commission Work Session, Notice of Public Hearing Sign, thanks to Barbara Stratton even though the City of Valdosta’s calendar lists that Work Session for 5:30 PM Monday May 23rd 2016 at South Health District Administrative Office (former Lowndes County Administration Building), 325 W Savannah Ave, Valdosta, GA 31601. Presumably the Hahira rezonings and annexation will be discussed. And will County Manager Joe Pritchard say this morning at 8:30 AM at the Lowndes County Work Session that he has received an annexation letter from Hahira?

Neither of these Monday meetings are public hearings: the public can attend, but can not speak. See previous post for when the public hearings are.

Videos: Animals, CAC on Skipper Bridge, 3 board appointments, alcohol @ LCC 2016-03-08

The reading of the Animal Welfare Ordinance drew two citizen speakers: Jim Sharpe and Dr. Amanda Hall.

Chairman Bill Slaughter remarked on the 5 March 2016 death of former Lowndes County Coroner Charles Exum.

Videos: DFCS and ZBOA appointments + guns, lawyers, and money @ LCC 2014-06-10

They wouldn’t say what they would do to secure their own building after July 1st when the Georgia guns-everywhere law goes into effect. A split vote for not opposing the Hahira annexation recommended against by the Planning Commission plus unanimous approval of everything else under For Consideration, including declaring some Finance computers surplus. They voted to approve their opaque selection of auditing services and to buy an unnamed firewall replacement among other things for unknown amounts. Maybe somebody should bring that up at the county Budget Hearings.

They reappointed Lonnie Denton to a sixth five-year term on the Lowndes Division of Family and Children Services (he spoke) and Willie Houseal and Gretchen Quarterman each to a third three-year term on the ZBOA (they spoke yesterday morning). Also Public Hearings for well and septic and a special events change to the ULDC. in their Luke Bryan balancing act.

Here’s the agenda, with links to the videos and a few notes. See also the videos of the Work Session of the previous morning and the videos of the 27 May 2014 Planning Commission meeting.
