Videos: Appt to KLVB & Health, County Extension, Alapaha water treatment, Riverside Road, Bemiss Landing Subdivision @ LCC 2014-07-21

The KLVB applicant withdrew, none of the Health Board applicants showed up, and none of the Commission or Staff knew what the usual terms are on the Health Board, much less that this slot was because somebody resigned with a year left on her term. Even with that confusion, they took only nine minutes to discuss appointments to two boards and five other items, including a no-bid contract. Ever wonder when your Lowndes County Commission actually talks about the county’s business? They vote tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM, probably with no more public discussion.

Here’s the agenda.

LOWNDES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
PROPOSED AGENDA
WORK SESSION, MONDAY, JULY 21, 2014, 8:30 a.m.
REGULAR SESSION, TUESDAY, JULY 22, 2014, 5:30 p.m.
327 N. Ashley Street — 2nd Floor

Here are links to the videos, followed by a playlist. There are no videos for Invocation, Pledge, or Citizens Wishing to be Heard because those are only in the Regular Session, Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM.

Appointments to KLVB & Health, County Extension, Alapaha water treatment, Riverside Road, Bemiss Landing Subdivision @ LCC 2014-07-21

And an EMPG grant award application. As usual, no clue who the board applicants are. However, Nick Hinson’s term on KLVB is up this year, so I predict he’ll be reappointed.

Here’s who was on the Health Board at the end of 2012. One of their members, Mary Margaret Richardson, is also on the hospital board. Here are videos of the Board of Health 30 May 2013 meeting. The Board of Health meets again 7:30 AM Tuesday 22 July 2014.

Here’s the agenda.

Videos: Half Nelson Hill and rezoning to Agricultural @ GLPC 2014-06-30

Only two cases, both Lowndes County. Johnny White withdrew his request to rezone to agricultural. GLPC tabled REZ-2014-13 Nelson Hill. And Vice Chair Diondra Nichols is moving to Las Vegas. She’s a county appointee, so expect to see an appointment on an upcoming Lowndes County Commission agenda.

Here’s the agenda. The date on the GLPC agenda for the following Lowndes County Commission Regular Session was wrong; should be 8 July 2014 (see the videos of that LCC meeting). That incorrect date confused GLPC Chair Johnny Ball, as well.

Videos: budget, baords, and approvals @ LCC 2014-06-24

None of the appointees spoke, but all were appointed unanimously, and they unanimously approved a landfill expansion item without ever seeing a site plan. Ray Devery and Barry Barr to the Library Board, Sheila Wakeley to the South Georgia Community Service Board, and John Sineath to the Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, even though Valdosta’s web page says he’s a city appointee.

They also unanimously approved everything else: a grant for help getting a grant, re-evaluation of all rural agricultural tax assessments, the annual mosquito testing contract with VSU, and the landfill public hearing clarification item about the hearing of the public notice already posted for 17 July 2014.

Here’s the agenda, with some notes, and links to the videos.

Agriculture, Tower, and Nelson Hills @ GLPC 2014-06-30

Twelve acres requested to rezone to agricultural and “an amendment to the zoning conditions” for the Nelson Hills Subdivision; the same one that previously got waivers from county staff with no public hearing. People might think that’s why the county didn’t want anybody to see this agenda.

After no electronic copy was available, Gretchen photographed a paper copy of the agenda, which I’ve OCRed. She heard that one item was withdrawn and another was requested to be tabled for 30 days. We’ll see.

Videos: 5 board appointments, budget, and 4 For Approval @ LCC 2014-06-23

The county’s response to the weekend storms (straight-line event, not tornado) was less confused than its proposed board appointments. They vote Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM, including on the budget.

Likely return of Ray Devery to the Library Board as Chairman, and reappointment of Barry Barr. Sheila Wakeley for the South Georgia Community Service Board, but even the Commissioners had no bio for her. John Sineath for Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, even though Valdosta’s web page says he’s a city appointee. None of the applicants spoke.

A grant for help getting a grant, re-evaluation of all rural agricultural tax assessments, the annual mosquito testing contract with VSU, and the landfill public hearing clarification item apparently is about the hearing of the public notice already posted for 17 July 2014.

Here’s the agenda, with some notes, and links to the videos.

5 board appointments, budget, 4 For Approval incl. Landfill @ LCC 2014-06-23

The second and last Budget Hearing is 5PM Tuesday 24 June 2014, just before the Regular Session.

But first, at the Monday morning Work and Tuesday evening Regular Sessions, 4 appointments to 3 boards, and four obscure For Consideration items about a grant, a schedule, a contract, and a landfill public hearing that may or may not be the one of the public notice already posted for 17 July 2014.

Here’s the agenda.

Energy Policy Act of 2005 considered harmful

The same Energy Policy Act of 2005 that subsidized dirty oil and fracked methane including LNG exports also funded that oxymoron “clean” coal such as Southern Company’s Plant Ratcliffe in Mississippi, ethanol production lining the pockets of Monsanto, and the $8.3 billion loan guarantee to Georgia Power for the new nukes at Plant Vogtle.

2005 was a very long time ago in solar PV years: prices are halved, and installed solar power production is up more than ten times and growing exponentially like compound interest. We need to stop throwing money at dirty, water-sucking, centralized baseload 20th century non-solutions and get on with clean 21st century distributed solar and wind power for jobs, for energy independence, and for clean air and water, not to mention less climate change.

Georgia Power wants more new water for Vogtle nukes than Savannah uses @ GA EPD 2014-05-08

Today is the last day to comment to GA EPD about Georgia Power’s demand for more new water for the Plant Vogtle nukes than Savannah uses. As Southern Company CEO Tom Fanning said two years ago, “water, more than air, is the issue of the future”. Comments may be emailed to EPDComments@dnr.state.ga.us with the subject line “Plant Vogtle.” See below for videos of what people said at a recent public hearing.
