Senior living, pool, food trucks @ GLPC 2018-04-30

Could it be food trucks Hahira wants to change in its Zoning Ordinance? In Valdosta, a request for a Planned Development on Gornto Road, and two rezonings for a senior living residential housing complex which would have access on Ashley Street, Emory Street, and University Drive, based around the site of China Garden.

Videos: Litigation Executive Session, Lighting Ordinance, Drainage, Well, Trash, Software, Trucks @ LCC 2018-03-26

An Executive Session for pending or potential litigation: are they going to sue Deep South Sanitation again? Some of them sure seem to want to find any excuse not to re-approve DSS’s franchise, which was the longest item at three minutes.

Second longest was two minutes for the Bid for Mini Excavator for the Utilities Department. Slow morning at the County Commission.

Lighting Ordinance, Drainage, Well, Trash, Software, Trucks @ LCC 2018-02-26

The Street Lighting Ordinance on the agenda for this morning and tomorrow evening is not among those on the County Ordinances web page. How are we to “Know the Laws”, as the link from the county’s front page says, when unknown ordinances keep popping up? Ah, it’s currently a resolution and they want to make it an ordinance.

Videos: Resolutions and Railroad crossing @ Hahira 2018-01-30

The Hahira City Council passed two resolutions at its February 1, 2018 Regular Session, one supporting GA HR 158 to stop state fee diversions, and another supporting the Withlacoochee and Little River Water Trail. Two days before I spoke about both and there was discussion at the Hahira Work Session of January 30, 2018.

Another item from that Work Session has unfortunately become big news: possibly closing the Lawson Street railroad crossing, where a man was killed February 5 when a Norfolk Southern train struck a dump truck, according to WTXL. WALB says, “The Georgia State Patrol identified the driver as Dexter Brown, 48, of Barnwell, S.C.”. Mayor Bruce Cain gave a statement to Hahira Today, which also included some discussion of that agenda item: Continue reading

Videos: Candidate Forum, AAUW 2017-09-21

Valdosta State University gave the American Association of University Women Powell Hall for this candidate forum last Thursday, September 21, 2017. Why they held it in a dark room with bad acoustics, I don’t know, but at least you can see the candidates and other speakers.

Here are links to each LAKE video, followed by a LAKE video playlist. Yes, you may use one of these videos or clips in your political ad, provided you cite the source: Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE). See also the announcement in the VDT.

Videos: Crowd for three rezoning cases @ GLPC 2017-07-31

They meet again tonight. The longest case last month at the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission was: 5. VA-2017-11 Tombrooks LLC 316&318 Eager Road PD in R-10 at almost 56 minutes. Together with its companion 4. VA-2017-10 Tombrooks LLC 318 Eager Road R15 to R10 at 27 minutes, those two took longer than the pair of Jon Nijem Baytree Road rezonings and the Hahira Wilby Coleman Stanfill Street rezoning put together. That last one is apparently since Hahira is getting redesigned so much by the exit 29 reworking and a new ball park that anybody nearby might as well try to do something with their property.

GDOT construction on I-75 Exit 29 2017-08-28

This is the entrance to I-75 from GA 122 that often is backed up all the way to the traffic light in Hahira in the morning, that I use all the time. It did change quite a bit way back in 2006. More concerns were raised by citizens in 2013, but “No major changes made as a result of comments received.” One archaeological site was found in a survey. The winning bid for each of the utilities relocation and the main contract was Reames.

Crowd expected for three rezoning cases @ GLPC 2017-07-31

Three rezoning cases, one in Hahira on W. Stanfill St. and two in Valdosta on Eager Road, may be controversial tonight at 5:30 PM.

Daniel DeMersseman, VDT, 26 July 2017, Planning Commission expects crowd,

“It’s just three properties but they’re not simple ones. Each of these has the potential to bring a crowd,” [Valdosta and Hahira Planning and Zoning Administrator Matt] Martin said.
