Last week while we were out of town, the Lowndes County Commission considered
two rezonings, one with
a Union Road, Hahira address,
by far the longest,
with Judge Arthur McLane speaking against,
the applicant Stacy Stubbs speaking for,
and quite a bit of discussion among Commissioners and staff,
after which they approved it 3:2 with the two conditions proposed by the Planning Commission.
The other rezoning has
a Valdosta address, which they approved unanimously;
for both see also
the preceding Planning Commission meeting.
Plus a third transportation item,
GDOT Option for Right of Way at Exit 11.
A bid, a bunch of contracts, and an alcohol license; pretty routine.

Yes, it was food trucks Hahira wants to change in its Zoning Ordinance, and that was the long item, at 42 minutes in Monday’s Planning Commission meeting. Neighbors Barry Robinson and Gretchen Quarterman spoke about it at the Planning Commission, as did the food truck owner, and I bet on all of them being at the Hahira City Council tonight, especially given that the Planning Commission recommendation was not favorable.
The Planning Commission spent less than 18 minutes on the two rezonings for a senior living residential housing complex in Valdosta. The request for a Planned Development on Gornto Road took about as long.

Could it be food trucks Hahira wants to change in its Zoning Ordinance? The Planning Commission had a large crowd, including County Commissioner Joyce Evans and Chairman Bill Slaughter visible lower left, and that may be Commissioner Mark Wisenbaker in front of them.
Most of them left after the North Oak Street planned development, excuse me, rezoning, took almost an hour. See the notes on that item below for a spoiler for what happened to it later.
Second longest at almost fourteen minutes was the Lakeland Highway rezoning, in which the current owners apparently were trying to fix a problem left them by previous owners.
Third at almost seven minutes was a tie between the CR Ventures (Camp Rock again) rezoning on Rocky Ford Road and the Kaylyn Gill Tucker rezoning on Enoch Lake Road, carving out a plot for a single house from a planned development.

Almost half an hour on the
Bill Branham subdivision on Copeland Road
resulted in a split denial: the only denial in this Planning Commission Regular Session.
Slightly less time on the Charles Bennett accessory dwelling unit on Green Meadown Drive got unanimous approval with staff conditions.
Ten minutes on the Clint Joyner’s request for Knight’s Development’s 30-acre subdivision rezoning on Bemiss Knights Academy Road got unanimous approval. About the same on Tim Blanton’s rezoning of 45+ acres to residential agriculture passed unanimously. Ditto rezoning for Richard Bonner’s rezoning for a fast-growth corridor between Highway 84 and Interstate 75. Less time for Jon Nijem’s expanded parking on Baytree Road to pass unanimously.
Keith Sandlin’s Lake Park case did sail through, as did John Thomas’ rezoning for a showroom for his show car business.
Commissioner Willis’ term was coming up for reappointment.

by the Lowndes County Commission.
They heard one case each from the seldom seen Cities of
Dasher,
and
Remerton (longest at almost 38 minutes on apartments at the old mill site).
plus
and three from
Lowndes County including
REZ-2018-02 CR Ventures – Rocky Ford Rd – 71 acres (third longest at 23 minutes),
and
five from Valdosta
including
Deep South Sanitation (second longest at more than 37 minutes),
which was also separately heard on a related matter by
ZBOA a week later.
