County Planner Jason Davenport said at Monday morning’s Work Session that the Comprehensive Plan Update should be a Public Hearing, so it needs to be listed as such for Tuesday evening’s Regular Session. I guess that is more than 24 hours notice, but did they send a notice to the newspaper? How were people to know, and why was this left to the day before when this schedule has been known for months to all the local planners?
Not on the agenda, the Brookwood Place Subdivision tabled two weeks ago popped up in Reports.
The county has had a board member listed for VLPRA for a year after his term actually expired.
Plus a special after-the-meeting report from South Georgia Medical Center.
Below are links to each LAKE video of Monday morning’s Work Session, followed by a video playlist.

5.a. Valdosta- Lowndes County Land Bank Authority
Video. Commissioner Joyce Evans and Frank Moore are current county appointees serving on this board. Jason Dove has applied for an additional slot that’s being added, and a joint (presumably city-county) appointment will be coming up, said County Manager Joe Pritchard.

5.b. Valdosta- Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority
Video. Current county appointees according the County Manager Joe Pritchard: Mr. Ashley Paulk, whose three-year term is expiring. “And also” Michael McDowell, whose appointment expired a year ago, but the county had listed it as a four-year appointment when it was really a three-year appointment. Hm, did McDowell vote on anything on that board in the last year? Nobody asked that question. Did that board even meet in the last year? Nobody asked that question. It probably did, since it meets monthly. McDowell is still listed on VLPRA’s website as a board member.
So now Pritchard recommends to reappoint McDowell and “either Mr. Paulk or someone of your choosing”.
Commissioner Mark Wisenbaker wanted to know if the appointment requires an elected official. Answer: no. Which we knew already, because Ashley Paulk did not hold any elected position when he was reappointed by the county three years ago.
