This morning’s 8:30 AM $45,600.00 for new grounds for four radio towers: was it in the budget, or is this another emergency no-bid item? Ditto the $10,379.00 for the Kinderlou Lift Station Pump? Each item names only one company quoting.
After abandoning Beaver Lane, will the county vote to fix it as a private road, like they did with Carter Way? And from whom did the county receive the abandonment request? Will the County Manager’s Report include the Hahira W. Main St. annexation?
Also on the Lowndes County Commission agenda for discussion Monday morning and vote Tuesday evening, appointing “Ms. Andrea Schuijer and a Commissioner” to the South Regional Joint Development Authority. Presumably that’s a misspelling for Andrea Schruijer, who is also Executive Director of the Valdosta-Lowndes Development Authority. But the county’s web page on that Joint Authority says she’s already on it. So is this a reappointment? And which slots are vacant? Also, what does this Joint Authority do?
The agenda sheet for the appointment to the Southern Georgia Area Agency on Aging almost says what they’re planning to do: “Commissioner Joyce Evans’ term on the Southern Georgia Area Agency on Aging Board will expire June 30, 2016, leaving a vacant seat. Staff asks that the Board appoint a member to fill the vacant seat.” It doesn’t say they’re going to reappoint Commissioner Evans.

Appoint two members: Ms. Andrea Schuijer and a CommissionerDocuments:South Regional Joint Development Authority.pdf
The county actually has a web page on this Authority, which says there are members from Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Cook, Echols, Lanier, and Lowndes Counties (although many of their slots are vacant), and the current Lowndes members are Glenn Gregory, Andrea Schruijer, Bill Rountree, and Bill Holland. So should that be reappoint Ms. Schruijer? And who’s not being reappointed to make room for “a Commissioner”? The county’s web page says this Authority serves as “a funding mechanism” but not for what:
Similar to the Lowndes Development Authority, this joint authority is comprised of members representing Lowndes, Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Echols and Lanier counties. Serving as a funding mechanism, members are appointment by their respective county for a term of four years. Is the rest of Beaver Lane already private? It is only connected to the county road system by this section they now want to abandon. And the only property owners show on the Lowndes County Tax Assessors maps for Beaver Lane between Mt Zion Road and Phillips Road are Jimmy L. Watkins of 4689 Mt Zion Road, parcel 0061 001, Robert C. and Stephanie J. Simmons of 4876 Phillips Road, parcel 0062 001A, and Thomas Wade and Laverne B. Jackson of Mt Zion Road, parcel 0062 001B. They all seem to front on one of the other roads. That’s all in the Withlacoochee River watershed.
