and Tuesday evening finally voting on the
Animal Services Ordinance
including tethering, and (who knew about this?)
appointing Christina Bennett to the Animal Control Board.
Renewing the annual Section 5311 Rural Transportation Program Capital Contract for the MIDS bus service is on the agenda, as is appointing three people to the Valdosta Lowndes County Metropolitan Planning Organization (VLMPO) out of these four: Ronald Skrine, Tammy Greenway, Floyd Rose, Bob Wilburs. As usual, how were people supposed to know? And where are the applications of those named? Rev. Floyd Rose is well known to everybody, but who are the others? Sure, we can find some of them, such as Ronald Skrine’s linkedin profile says he’s “Battalion Chief, Administration, Valdosta Fire Department”. At least they’re actually named in the agenda; that’s a tiny improvement.
Annual residential solid waste franchise renewals for Advanced Disposal Services and Deep South Sanitation: somebody remind me why the county government is picking winners in trash collection, which also costs more now than it would have if they’d just increased the fee for the county collection centers 50%?
They want to purchase and equip a trailer for space for multiple agencies to “coordinate during large events in which multiple agencies respond to the scene”, using a FY2016 Homeland Security Grant Application. Perhaps related, but less costly to the taxpayer, is an update of the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement with GEMA and “each of the other 158 counties in Georgia”. And a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) 501(c)(3) to be “jointly operated by the Valdosta Housing Authority and the Valdosta/Lowndes Habitat for Humanity” at a cost of $10,000. We saw that before in their February 8th 2016 meeting.
