It’s Water Oak Trail, not Water Oak Drive, for the road abandonment: how are people supposed to know to show up for a public hearing when the address isn’t even on the right street?
Update 2014-10-14: The board packet has the correct address, so if the county put that packet on its website the citizens wouldn’t be confused. And the lift pump replacement got a single quote for $30,040.20, so this is yet another single-sourced non-competitive deal. Why do Commissioners have no questions about that?
Plus an unscheduled recognition of Leadership Lowndes attendees, a Planning Commission reappointment with no previous advertisement, yet another water pump replacement, a well and septic rezoning on Madison Highway, and a legal grant, on the agenda.

Video. Jody Hall wants to be reappointed.
- Public Hearing
- Abandonment of Unopened Right of Way off Water Oak Drive
Video. The map shown on the screen behind the Commissioners has a label over Parcel 0171 068 on Water Oak Trail, not Water Oaks Drive.
Which explains the cryptic reference to what turns out to be MAR-MEL-GO LLC in Parcel 0171 042D just to the south. County Engineer Mike Fletcher said two of three adjoining property owners are in favor: MAR-MEL-GO and the people to the west. He was apparently was playing telephone tag with the landowners to the east, yet he thought it would be ready for a public hearing tomorrow.
How are people supposed to know to go to a public hearing when it’s on the agenda for the wrong street, not to mention with no street address?
Commissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know how the land would be split up. Answer: 50-50 between the adjoining landowners.
More in the video of the 23 September 2014 Regular Session and the 22 September 2014 Work Session.
- REZ-2014-16 Bailey, Madison Hwy/Williams School Ln R-21 and R-1 to M-2, Well/Septic ~2.6 acres
Video. County Planner Jason Davenport said Bailey Equipment Company had been nonconforming but allowed since their use predated county-wide zoning in the 1980s. Apparently Parcel 0135 102. He said Bailey now wants to become conforming. Staff recommended by 5-2 vote to pursue C-C zoning (rather than M-2). The applicants now would consider M-1 instead of M-2. The Planning Commission voted 7-1 to recommend C-C zoning. Davenport thought it would be a challenge due to “history and unique issues” although he knew of no opposition. Commissioners had no questions.
- For Consideration
- Foxbourgh Lift Station Pump Replacement
Video. Utilities Director Mike Allen said a pump had failed, they had received quotes, and he recommended going with one of them. He didn’t say quotes from whom or for how much. Commissioners had no questions.
Update 2014-10-14: In the board packet There’s one quote, from xylem, for the Foxborough lift station pump repair, for $30,040.20. So this is yet another single-sourced non-competitive deal.
- DA’s Federal VOCA Grant Application Renewal
Video. After a brief presentation by District Attorney J. David Miller (whom we know reads this blog), Commissioners had no questions. He wanted a renewal of a grant funded by fines on criminal defendants in federal court. Even the 5% match is paid for by fines. The money supports victim services in five counties.
- Recognition of Leadership Lowndes Attendees
Video. Two people stood up.
- Reports-County Manager
Video. County Manager Joe Pritchard requested an executive session for purposes of discussing real estate. Hm, like the one that added the GDOT purchase option at Hollywood and US 84 to the previous meeting’s agenda?
- Citizens Wishing to be Heard Please State Name And Address
Only in the Regular Session Tuesday evening.
