Support of S.AV.E. Fossil Free Divestment CampaignDate: March 4, 2014

Be it enacted by the Senate of Valdosta State University (VSU) here assembled, that:
WHEREAS, the Students Against Violating the Environment (S.A.V.E.) organization has presented a divestment campaign for the VSU Foundation to the Student Government Association in October 2013, resulting in the request for additional clarity and information to be gathered regarding their campaign, and
WHEREAS, the SAVE organization has obtained support from the Faculty Senate Environmental Issues Committee for their divestment campaign for the VSU Foundation in November 2013, and
WHEREAS, the SAVE organization has also obtained unanimous support from the voting representatives of the Faculty Senate in November 2013 for the VSU Foundation divestment campaign, and
WHEREAS, the SAVE organization held multiple forums to address the SGA request for additional education opportunities for students, staff, faculty, administration, and interested community members regarding the divestment campaign for the VSU Foundation, and
WHEREAS, the SAVE organization addressed the SGA voting membership in February 2014 with additional information regarding the VSU Foundation divestment campaign and answered questions, and
WHEREAS, the Senators of the Student Government Association voted in favor of the SAVE organization’s divestment campaign by a vote of 23 in favor, 6 against, and 5 abstaining in March 2014, and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT this resolution indicate the support of the Student Government Association for the SAVE divestment campaign to the VSU Foundation, and
FINALLY, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Student Government Association President distribute this resolution upon passage and signage as deemed appropriate.
