Proposed development next to Moody AFB has been withdrawn (REZ-2013-08)

Received in response to an open records request to Lowndes County, here is the developer’s withdrawal letter, and correspondence between Lowndes County Zoning and Planning with Moody AFB confirming that this was indeed REZ-2013-08 MFH Tract A on Roberts Road that was withdrawn. It seems the U.S. Air Force would also like to see GLPC minutes online; that request came from Deputy, Housing Division, Air Force Civil Engineering Center, located in San Antonio, Texas.. Also, doesn’t Georgia open meetings law require a summary of actions taken within a few days of a Planning Commission meeting? -jsq

Gentlemen,

I had no idea of the county anger with MFH LLC. I thought that it was a good idea for the reasons stated. I was finally contacted by Balfour Beatty last Thursday and was told that they were NOT interested. So the deal was dead anyway. I was very surprised by the attitude of some of the attendees this evening and the realization that this was a BRAC issue with the USAF at the Washington level. I certainly was never told that by the local base if I had I never would have bothered submitting the rezoning application.

Balfour Beatty has played their hand very well. Having been awarded the privatization two years ago and now state they MUST close before September 30th or the USAF will lose the funding.

I hereby withdraw the rezoning application for the 123+ acre tract for MFHLLC>

Yes, this was case REZ-2013-08, located off of Roberts Road, Wilbanks Avenue, and Bemiss Road. The application was to rezone from MAZ-I to Residential Planned Development (PD). The request appeared before the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) on Monday, July 29th, and a recommendation of denial was rendered by that body.

The minutes are being prepared by our office and will not be officially adopted until the GLPC’s next meeting, August 26th. At this time, we do not post the minutes of the GLPC meeting online. You may request a copy of these minutes via an Open Records Request through the County Clerk’s office (229 671 2400).

Ma’am,

Thank you for the reply. I understand the Lowndes County TRC reviewed a proposal from Carabetta to build residential construction on a parcel they own adjacent to Moody AFB, and that the Planning Board disapproved the zoning request. I was trying to find out what actually occurred.
