Ashley Paulk is code enforcement
Citizens were opposing a rezoning on Old Pine Road, 8 June 2010. A Mr. Mulligan of Bemiss Road wanted to know who does code enforcement. Chairman Paulk responded:You’re looking at him. Me.
I locked up some of my best friends!
While he was interrogating Dr. Noll 12 January 2011 who had the temerity to come to invite the Commission to a meeting, Ashley Paulk remarked:“I was the sheriff sixteen years; I locked up some of my best friends; that’s the way I operate.”This was shortly after he said:
“We have received veiled threats.”Well, I guess he should know about veiled threats. Maybe the best part, though, was, after attacking Dr. Noll for his opinions, his associates, his column in the newspaper, his nationality, etc., Ashley Paulk remarked:
“I have email here where some of your cohorts, they attack personalities.”So I guess that’s OK if you’re the Chairman?
Get those cameras back or I’ll sic the sheriff on you!
Mechelle Sullivan was calmly discussing animal shelter issues on 28 June 2011 when Ashley Paulk proceeded to accuse the Humane Society:…the Humane Society provided two county employees with undercover cameras as a gratuity.Even ones used by citizens to record activities of tax-paid public officials engaged in their duties?
So what did he want?
If I don’t get those cameras back and the gratuity I’m going to pursue it through the Sheriff’s office. As that point he couldn’t find anything in the copious documentation of animal shelter abuses to send to the sheriff, but he could threaten criminal legal action against people trying to video such abuses.
And this little gem, pointing at the VDT reporter:
Needs to be public record in the VDT.Who knew Ashley Paulk could tell the press what to do?
Photographers to the back of the room!
No longer content with stifling citizens asking questions about safety and code enforcement in rezoning hearings or interrogating them or threatening to sic the sheriff on them in Citizens Wishing to Be Heard, Ashley Paulk has now gotten up to haranguing citizens in work sessions, 12 September 2011. First he spoke for the Commission:Chairman: Mr Quarterman, The County Commission wishes from this day forward that any filming be done from the media area in the back corner of the room. Then he admitted the Commission had not voted:
Chairman: Yes sir, we uh independently; Then he claimed he was the law:Chairman: I will submit the chairman without the Commission … do not question my authority.
jsq: So the Commission has not taken a vote on that.
Chairman: Commission doesn’t have to.
jsq: Can I see that legal opinion please?Chairman: You’re looking at it.
Do not question my authority!
Well, no, I wouldn’t dream of that! I’ll let him do it himself.“You’re looking at him. Me.” [who’s responsible for code enforcement]

“I locked up some of my best friends”
“Needs to be public record in the VDT.”
“Commission doesn’t have to” [vote].
“You’re looking at it” [the legal opinion].
“Do not question my authority!”
Ashley Paulk seems to think he personally is the law and its enforcement; also he can dictate what the media report.
You know, maybe somebody should tell Ashley Paulk he’s not sheriff anymore, a County Commission meeting is not an episode of Cops, and citizens are not his prisoners in his jail.
Maybe we should even wonder how he ran his jail.

Short Link:
You should start calling him Louis.
I saw you made the paper again Mr. Quarterman. Did you behave better at the Tuesday meeting? I noted two things from the VDT account. 1. Mr. Paulk evidently reads your blog & 2. It will be interesting to watch to see if the VDT & other media have to remain in the media corner with you.
Sorry I missed the LAKE meeting Sunday evening. I know everyone missed the lone wolf conservative. LOL! One day you will be amazed to realize we are on the same side on a lot more issues than just transparency. Is there a reason why you never post Lake meeting minutes? Just kidding! You or Gretchen could maybe message me some informal minutes or call when you have time. Stay safe!
It is curious the spin the VDT put on that, isn’t it? Remember, any member of the public sitting in the audience could be singled out for flattery by the Chairman!
I think somebody reads the LAKE blog to my neighbor Ashley Paulk. When I spoke to him after yesterday’s meeting, he did not appear to have read this post.
The VDT reporter was sitting front row left as usual. I was sitting in my usual spot second row from the front, righthand side.
While one cannot know what is in the ordinance they passed yesterday until they get around to informing the great unwashed, the sign on the door seemed to indicate that only motion picture recording was relegated to the back behind the ribbon.
Look who thinks she’s a conservative!
We don’t post LAKE meeting minutes because there aren’t any, LAKE being a rambling informal sort of organization. That could change. If you come to the next meeting you could help accomplish that.
